A Miami-area nurse pleaded guilty to threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris in videos sent to her imprisoned husband earlier this year, officials said. Niviane Petit Phelps, 39, who pleaded guilty Friday to six counts, faces up to five years in prison, prosecutors said. Sentencing is set for Nov. 19. In February, Phelps sent her incarcerated husband six 30-second videos in which she threatened to kill Harris and claimed that she had been paid $53,000 and was "the hit man," officials said. She also sent a photo of her with a handgun at a gun range and applied for a concealed firearm permit. A transgender professor who was denied a promotion more than a decade ago must be reinstated with tenure at Southeastern Oklahoma State University because the school discriminated against her, a federal court ruled this week. Rachel Tudor, who was fired from the university in 2011, won a landmark civil rights discrimination case in 2017 in which a jury awarded her more than $1 million in damages. A man in Canada was crushed to death by his own car in a McDonald's drive-through last week in what local police called a "tragic death." Tony Eyles. The Vancouver Police Department confirmed that Anthony "Tony" Eyles, a married 42-year-old father of two from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, died Sept. 8. Eyles leaned out of the vehicle to pick up an item that fell as he was trying to pay for his order at a McDonald's drive-thru window in downtown Vancouver and was crushed by his car, police said.
